I truly don't know of a ramp we could have used on 19 when it was 13 feet high. I know our intended ramp at Fort Madison was way underwater as was Dallas City. If there was a ramp available, we didn't know about it. Does pool ten have high water ramps? Apparently so.
The guys that moved to the Iowa federation were upset that we moved the tournament from Pool 13 instead of changing the date to a later time when the river may have receded. The fact is that everyone in the state had set their schedules (time off from work, etc.) for the May date and changing the date was not going to work. We would have lost most of the teams by changing the date, so we changed the venue. If the board would have listened to me in the first place, we would never have scheduled the river at that time either last year or this. Now, at our Presidents Conference last week, the group voted overwhelmingly to move the venue away from the river again this year (same early May date) and set next year's date on the river at a later date. They did not want to move the date this year either in case of flooding. I would really like to fish 19 again, it's a good pool, but I really don't think we can schedule something as large and important as the State Qualifier before late June and be relatively assured that the river will be fishable. I know flooding can happen at any time, but early spring has a far greater likelihood that the conditions won't allow a tournament. Thanks for offering to help, but it looks like we won't be there until next year.
Believe it or not, the Illinois B.F.N. is trying it again! They have scheduled our 6-Man on Pool 19 on the first weekend in MAY! My warnings against doing so at that time of year is just asking for headaches. Oh well, at least this year we also got a permit for Shelbyville in case the river is up, which it will be unless there is an unusually dry winter/early spring. Anyway, if we do fish 19, we might hit you up for some tips about fishing it that time of year. I don't believe I've ever fished it until mid/late June.
