Champaign Urbana Bass Club

As you fill out your lake ballot sheets for next year (which are due at the December club meeting, by the way), I'd like for you to give consideration to Forbes Lake. Greg and I went there early this fall and caught a lot of fish-no huge ones, but several keepers. It's not a long pull, the facilities (campground and motels) are excellent, and the lady who is now running the restaurant at the marina said she'd be glad to put together an "after glow" happy hour for us after Saturday's day of fishing, whenever that might be. We also have had the big bass for the year caught there in the past, so there are some really nice fish there.

I second that nomination. It's not far past Effingham and we wouldn't use a lot of boat gas. The facilities are very good and I've witnessed some very good tournaments there, although up until last year, the last few years it had been down a bit. It's a fun lake to fish and I will certainly put it on my ballot.

I also second Forbes. The INHS shocked up some good bass there this spring so I will get their shocking transect maps and share them with whoever offers me the right price!

I am also going to vote for East Fork in the spring. It stank pretty bad this fall for those who attended the classic but it was taking 20-22 lbs to win tournaments this last spring and 14-16 lbs to make a check.

Has anyone confirmed the lake tags cost for Sara Next year?

I again and pushing lake Vermillion, The coments that I got last year is "That Lakes sucks" Well I think that we all experienced lake sucking this year. This is a close lake that has large bass in it. It also has the river that feeds in to the lake in witch you can go way up there.
Sara. I think Timmy said that the lake pass would be $80, wow, I would re-consider this, The coments on this is that we pull our boats all over the country to fish look at that money, well if I spned another $20 a year for a pass, I would feal that I would have to use this sticker alot, so then I am pulling an hour and half one way to use this sticker. I think that we all need to look at something different !

Wow, can we get confirmation from Tim (or anyone who has checked) on that Lake Sara fee? That would certainly influence my decision on putting Sara on my list. I think Vermilion is a good idea also. There are some nice fish there, and going up a river to fish is always appealing to me. If I remember, the launch fee isn't too steep, either.

Launch fee at Vermillion is $7.

I heard talk about the price going up, but I do not have any definite numbers right now. I won't know the price until I go get my sticker Jan. 1st. If the cost goes up $20 that sucks, but if you look at the last three years of tournaments, which lakes have repeatedly given up the most fish each tournament. Maybe we should get rid of Shelbyville and start looking at the smaller lakes where it seems our club members do the best. I don't know about everyone else, but I would spend a little more money to fish lakes where myself and co-angler actually catch fish. Fishing all day for 3 or 4 bites sucks, at least Lake Sara, Mill Creek, East Fork, Forbes, and Lake Egypt you catch plenty of fish each day. I would rather release 20 shorts before I catch a keeper, than fish all day and get one or two bites, which might be a keeper. The extra $20 might mean you guys may have to leave one of those lucky craft crankbaits on the bass pro shelf this Christmas:)

Since the cost of lake tags has is rising I wonder if considering increasing the number of torny's on a specific lake would be good. I enjoy Sara but the camping I'm told sucks and the hotel arrangments haven't been the best. Mill Creek is as close for most with adequate camping and motel accommodations near by. Your freind is not working there as he if off with a back injury and most likely won't be back. Just a thought!

Hey Guys,
Lake Sara might have a price increase but something that came from the EWA November meeting was to issue temporary tags...something like a weekend pass, but also on the downside they are working with the homeowners group to place a horsepower limit and a "No Wake" from 6am to 8am and 6pm to 8pm...this was just talk as the of the November meeting and there is no December meeting for the Effingham Water Auth....just FYI
